BUILT FOR BETTER ACADEMY · WEST YORKSHIRE

A real site.
A world of possibility.

We’re developing a new kind of academy in West Yorkshire: one that connects the classroom, a real property project and the next step into work.

WEST YORKSHIRE · THE VISION

See the possibility.

From buildings ready for a new chapter to welcoming homes. Explore the existing site and our vision for its future.

A vision of learning alongside a working construction project: a dedicated training space, organised working areas and supervised opportunities to see skills in practice.

Spaces to feel at home.

Natural textures, light-filled rooms and thoughtful everyday details.

I-SIP’S DELIVERY TRACK RECORD · 2023–2026

Support that helps
people move forward.

Our construction Skills Bootcamps experience informs the learning and support we are bringing to the developing Built for Better Academy.

92%

Programme success

Approximately 92% of learners achieved all three DfE milestones across our construction Skills Bootcamps programme, 2023–2026.

Positive destinations

Progression into employment, further learning, or industry-recognised qualifications and certifications.

Different backgrounds. A shared opportunity.

We welcome people from different backgrounds and work with learners to understand their goals and the barriers they face.

Programme success combines Wave 1 and its Wave 2 contract extension, weighted by starters. The percentage is approximate because the Wave 1 rate was rounded. These are I-SIP’s historic programme results, not outcomes from the developing academy or guarantees for future learners.

OFSTED MONITORING VISIT · 16–17 OCTOBER 2025

“Leaders ensure learners are provided with effective support to overcome barriers to learning and employment”

Inspectors recognised employer relationships that create opportunities, experienced and well-qualified teaching staff, and learners achieving their intended learning outcomes.

THE PLACE WHERE IT COMES TOGETHER

Better homes.
New beginnings.

The West Yorkshire project is the starting point for our live-site academy ambition. We want people to see how buildings change, understand the work involved and discover where their own strengths could fit.

The model combines ADC’s construction experience with I-SIP’s learner support, employer connections and digital learning tools. As the project develops, suitable learners can move towards supervised work experience, assessment and employment opportunities.

The property purchase has been agreed. The development, academy opening and qualification arrangements are being progressed, subject to the necessary approvals and partner agreements.

FROM FIRST STEP TO NEXT STEP

A pathway shaped
around the person.

Some people need a first introduction. Others are ready for experience, a qualification or an employer conversation. The right next step is personal.

01

Discover

Explore construction and green skills, understand the opportunities and build confidence.

02

Prepare

Develop site awareness, communication, teamwork and the behaviours employers value.

03

Experience

Move into suitable supervised work experience and build a record of practical progress.

04

Progress

Work towards an appropriate qualification, further learning, an interview or paid employment.

A SUPPORTED INTRODUCTION

Green skills.
A human approach.

Our 20-hour introductory programme brings learning to life through tutor-led classroom sessions, discussion and interactive digital tasks based on the West Yorkshire property.

Learners explore a home’s transformation across five learning areas, building their own digital retrofit journey and a record of their progress.

This introductory course is classroom based. Hands-on site work is a separate progression opportunity, with its own suitability checks and supervision.

FIVE LEARNING AREAS · 20 CHALLENGES

  1. Introduction to retrofit & green skills
  2. Site readiness & workplace behaviours
  3. Damp, mould & better homes
  4. Construction waste & environmental responsibility
  5. Fire compartmentation & safer homes

Tutor support is central. Digital tasks are learning activities used in the classroom; learners do not need to be confident technology users to ask about taking part.

THE LONGER-TERM PATHWAY

Skills that connect
to real work.

ROUTE 01

Waste & site logistics

Responsible clearance, materials handling and site organisation, with appropriate occupational learning and NVQ progression.

ROUTE 02

Retrofit assessment & advice

Understanding homes, damp and mould, domestic retrofit and the roles that help residents make better decisions.

ROUTE 03

Maintenance & multi-trade

Building the practical skills needed to repair, refurbish and improve existing properties.

These are proposed progression routes. We are exploring opportunities with a range of potential funding, education and employer partners. Qualifications, eligibility, funding and start dates will be confirmed before enrolment.

TRAINING, SKILLS & EMPLOYMENT

Strong connections.
Better opportunities.

From I-SIP’s training to our wider skills and employment work, working together helps people take their next step.

YOUR QUESTIONS

A clearer first step.

Is the West Yorkshire academy open now?

The live-site academy is in development. You can contact us now about the plans, current learning opportunities or becoming a partner. We will confirm academy opening and programme dates when they are agreed.

Do I need construction experience?

Introductory learning is designed to help people explore the industry and build confidence. Tell us about your interests and support needs so we can discuss a suitable starting point. Eligibility varies by programme.

Is every course practical and based on a building site?

No. The introductory green skills programme is face-to-face, tutor-led classroom learning with digital activities. Any work experience or live-site activity is a separate, supervised progression route.

Does taking part guarantee a qualification or a job?

We support people towards suitable next steps. Qualification entry, assessment and funding depend on the route, and employment depends on vacancies, suitability and recruitment. We will explain the confirmed offer before you join.

How can my organisation get involved?

We welcome conversations about learner referrals, work experience, employer visits, mentoring, assessment and suitable job opportunities. Colleges, employers, housing providers and community partners all have a role to play.
